Math Formula Sheets
Item Specifications
Item specifications serve as
a tool for educators to bridge between the content standards
and the assessments. Item specifications highlight big
ideas, critical concepts, and major topics identified in
content standards as essential elements for the tests and
therefore are useful in the design of curriculum guides and
lesson plans at all levels.
The Item specifications for
the Nevada Assessment program DO identify and highlight key
concepts and ideas that are considered by Nevada educators
to be essential to include in teaching and evaluating
students on the content included in the state standards. The
item specifications DO NOT define the content of all items
on the state assessments or place strict limits on the
topics or vocabulary used in assessing students’ knowledge
and abilities across the standards and grade levels. While
item specification documents can be useful tools, they
should not be used as a sole basis for development of
classroom instruction: The state content standards are the
appropriate basis for classroom instruction as they capture
the full range of expectations sampled on the tests.
