Welcome to the Social Studies Resources
Site!
The primary purpose of this site is to
connect the teachers of Nevada in an effort to promote
collaboration and professional discourse on all matters
pertaining to social studies education. In addition,
this site provides educators with valuable resources,
professional development information, and bulletins
about the latest events in social studies education in
Nevada! Please bookmark this page as there will continue
to be additions and updates to the site.
Here's what you'll find on this site:
Nevada State
Social Studies Standards: This link takes you directly to the Social Studies
Standards webpage. The newly adopted (2008) content
standards are available for use beginning with the 2009 –
2010 school year. The latest addition to the standards are the
Integrated Standards created by teachers across Nevada
to make the standards more user friendly and useful in
the classroom. The history standards were used as the
"umbrella" standards, and then the other social studies
standards were matched to that umbrella standard. In
addition, resources were added to each standard in an
effort to provide teachers with more options for
teaching the standards in their classrooms.

are to increase student achievement and support teacher

the state and across the country!

teachers. These sites are geared toward teaching
methods, tips for teachers, and reference sites geared
towards improving classroom instruction.
PO

professional social studies organizations across the
country.

Constitution Day: Constitution Day was passed into law on December 8,
2004. This law requires schools to inform and instruct
students on the importance of the signing of the United
States Constitution on September 17, 1787. As a result,
this Constitution Day website was created to provide
teachers with lessons, activities, and the resources
needed to make this happen in their classrooms.

Nevada History Day: National History Day is an annual academic competition,
much like the science fair; however, student projects
are based around the study of historical events, ideas,
issues, and people, rather than scientific concepts.
Nevada History Day is the state qualifying round for
student participation at the national competition.
